Debate Competition 2014
National Debate League

Once again we joined Debate Group and took part in the first round of the competition. This time the motion was This House Believes that Newspapers Should be Subsidized.

4th year students prepared their speeches and entered the debate against Lange Ley School at Islands International School and delivered a brilliant performance.

Debating gives our students the chance to express ideas in a clear way, defend a point of view, enrich their vocabulary and interact with other students in a formal environment. It encourages respect for other people’s opinion and also respect for rules and formal communication. It aims to promote team work and research work.

Debating offers a great number of benefits to our students and their education. We are proud to see their enthusiasm and commitment throughout the preparation and performance.

Congratulations to Christopher Arriarán, Tomás De Udaeta, Joaquin Ibarra, Pablo Reto, Emilio Trevor and Tomás Vilariño on your remarkable job!

Poetry and Chicken Tikka Masala

I love Chicken Tikka Masala. Unfortunately, I can´t read or even try to understand a recipe without getting utterly bored or falling asleep. I love poems. Alas, I can’t analyze a poem getting utterly bored or without falling asleep.

I believe that poetry, as a great dish, is to be savored, not deconstructed, but (yep, I am a teacher and there is always a “but, if or and”) the truth is that, in order to appreciate a meal, as well as a poem, we need to know the basics. If it tastes fantastic, it has to be because of a certain combination of ingredients. It doesn’t matter whether it is Garam Masala, yogurt, similes, metaphors or coconut milk. We appreciate a complex meal even more when we can palate every element. The same happens when we read a poem. Period!

And then there is cooking. Well, I don’t cook much. Ok, everybody knows I don’t cook at all, but I love Cooking Television programs. Jamie Oliver’s, MasterChef, Dinner Impossible, you name it, I watch them all and enjoy every sec of them. The same happens with poetry. I love sonnets, limericks, acrostics, etc. Unlike cooking, I have given poetry a try, as well as my students. We have analyzed poems and written our own. By now, the Classroom Quilt has become my Final Project´s favorite activity and I believe this year we have been able to turn a bland combination of ingredients into “a tasty dish to set before a King”.

Hope with time, boys, you give cooking a try, as well!

As JO would say, “Now enjoy, Happy Days!”

Ms Josefina Blanco

Antonito´s Poem

I am a Philosopher, lost on the way of learning
I wonder if happiness is the key to life
I heard my dead brother telling me “never back down”
I see my newborn nephew and I watch him grow up with pride
I want that the shadows of death go away from my family
I am a Philosopher lost on the way of learning
I pretend to be Junior´s GodFather
I feel that I am not the chosen one
I touché him and I know I will die for him
I worry because of the envy of others
I ask myself if I deserve him
I am a Philosopher lost on the way of learning
I understand that I am too young but
I believe that I can learn, with a closed mouth and an open mind
I dream about Jr. every night
I love him more than life itself
I hope he doesn’t follow the path I have followed
I am a lost Philosopher

(untitled)

I am the person who you can talk to him anytime you want
I wonder if I need to change or continue being the same person.
I hear a voice telling me that all is going to come to me in the right time
I see the city with all their people that I don´t know
I image I am in peace
I pretend to be successful
I feel happy in some ways and unhappy in some others
I touch the sun and it is cold
I want if it is going to disappear
I ask what I can do to warm it
I am the person who you can talk to him anytime you want
I understand that if I want things to change
I will need to change some parts of me
I believe that things are going to happen if I offer my good predisposition
I dream I got in trouble, in a situation
I trust that my friends are going to help me
I hope this things happen, I hope this star to be true
I am the person who you can talk to him anytime you want

Blissed and Blessed

I have been blissed and blessed by Life
I wonder if happiness is in our heads or hearts
I hear laughter, giggling and singing
I see a castle on a mountain nearby the woods
I want what I’ve got my family,
my friends and my peaceful daily day.

I intend every single day to become a better self
I feel if I try hard enough, I will succeed
I touch souls, halos and hearts
I worry when I feel I haven’t done enough
I ask myself what else to do to improve
I have been blissed and blessed by Life.

I understand Life is complex
I believe teaching is this and that as well
I dream of rainbows, harps, peonies and fairy tales
I trust in Will above all
I hope I remain strong
I have been blissed and blessed by Life.

Debate Fest - Junior League

Once again we will take part in the “Short Story and Poetry Competition” organized by Colegio del Arce.

Our students have been working on their poems and stories with their teachers in class. They have shown great creative power and style, eloquently expressing themselves through words.

Students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd years can e-mail their final versions until Friday August 23rd.

A well-known group of judges formed by journalists, editors, teachers and writers will read the productions and choose the winners.

The results will be announced on October 31st in a ceremony held in Auditorio Sarmiento, Universidad de Belgrano.

Intercambio 2013

Students’ Exchange Program 2013

Once again our school will take part in the Exchange program with Jesuit Schools in Boston, Washington and Los Angeles.

In January, our students will travel to the USA and stay there for 4 weeks sharing school and family life with other students, immersed in a different culture and speaking a different language but keeping the same Jesuit spirit fostered by our schools.

The agenda involves attending lessons at high school, visiting museums and traditional buildings and sharing daily life with a foreign family.

The program draws on when the North American host brothers come to Argentina next June. Repeating the same experience our students go through abroad, they are invited to get to know our traditions and become part of our school daily life.

This is without doubt, a valuable experience for our students and a unique opportunity to enrich their bonds with their own classmates and create new ones with their host brothers. Friendships, personal growth, knowledge of the world, Jesuit values, are only some of the aims that this program pursues.

You are welcome to read about this experience in the article written by the students who went through the experience in January 2012.

Literature Contest “Short Story and Poetry”

The creative pieces are the result of a gradual process guided by the teachers of each group, and focused on language accuracy as well as creativity.

I am proud to announce the stories and poems that were selected and sent to the competition.
